Delicious, healthy, whole wheat, PANCAKE lunch, yum!

We separated 90 eggs and whipped the whites for pancake lunch! This makes the whole grain pancakes light and fluffy. To go with them, we had Taft's maple syrup, Burnt Rock Farm carrot sticks, Kingdom County yogurt and USDA wild blueberries.
This is one of our favorite lunches, 107 students and 16 adults ate!

second graders immersed in the joy of listening to their classmate's writing

On Wednesday morning, the writer's in Mrs. Linder's and Mrs. Bernier's classes held a writing celebration. Each child had a chance to read their writing to a peer. This year students are writing more, sharing more and understanding the power of writing as a form of communicating ideas. The young second grade writers and their teachers have so much to celebrate. This group of writers is truly understanding the power of strong writing.
Hooray writers, Hooray teachers!!

school calendar 2015-2016

Dear Brewster-Pierce Families,
Last week the school calendar was voted on and approved. There is one major change so I encourage you to read the notice below, which was created for  all CESU schools to post on their websites.
“The CESU Governing Board has approved the calendar for next year. It is posted here on the school website, as well as on the CESU website.  (Click HERE to view the 2015-16 school calendar)
First, there are a few changes we wanted to share with you. School will start the last Wednesday of August, 8/26/15, which is the same as in past. Labor Day is very late, so it feels as though school is starting earlier than normal. This is due to the way the days of the month fall, Labor Day is the latest possible day it can be, Monday, 9/7/15. So we’ll start the year with a three day school week, then a five day school week, then a four day school week; this is different than last year.
Second, it is the mission of our school district to engage all learners.  In the next year we will be working on developing personal learning plans for students and personalizing our instruction so each child is challenged and supported.  Some of our changes require new learning for our teachers.  To assure the very best educational delivery it is vital that we allow time for training. You will see on the calendar two hour late start days on the second Wednesday of each month (Sept 9; Oct 14; Nov 11; Dec 9; Jan 13; Feb 10; March 9; April 13; May 11).  On these days, staff will be engaging in professional development and training to better serve student needs.  On these mornings, the school day and morning bus pick up will start exactly two hours later than the normal schedule. For example, if your child is picked up at 7:15 a.m., they’ll be picked up at 9:15 a.m. on the second Wednesday of the month. The in-school day will be adjusted slightly. Dismissal will be the same as every other day. We will be working over the next several months to brainstorm possible steps to mitigate challenges this calendar change may cause families.”
I wanted to make you aware of the changes to next year’s calendar in order for families to plan for this change. Please let me know if you have any questions.I can be reached by phone # 434-2074 or e-mail.
Sincerely,
Sally Koch Hayes, Principal

Print Making with Mrs. Blodgett!

After school artists having fun being creative.
Here are some photos of the students holding up their finished relief prints along with their styrofoam printing plates, which they created during the first printmaking
class. Students have enjoyed three sessions of after school print making.
If you have a talent that you'd like to share, please let Kristin Cummings, Margaret Taft, Alison Forest, Ruth Blodgett, Sally Hayes or Sue Van Der Vliet know! We would love to expand our enrichment offerings. Sharing a skill or talent is a wonderful way to enrich the learning of our students.

Vermont Writes Day at BPMS

What could be better than to stop what you are doing and take time to write? That's exactly what everyone did last Thursday to celebrate Vermont Writes Day.  One of the best ways to become a better writer is to, WRITE. On this day everyone chose a topic and simply enjoyed writing.

Coin Collection still going!

The consensus is "Keep Collecting!"
We have filled the jug just about half way, and everyone has agreed, let's try to fill it to the TOP! It's getting heavy, so we may need to put it on a rolling cart to move it. It's worth it!
If you still have change... send it in to continue filling the jug!

During the week of February 16th, we celebrated “I LOVE to Read and Write Week.” Every day we had guest readers in nearly every classroom. We had 57 guest readers during that week, including many parents, several staff members, John Alberghini, Jen Botzojorns, Anne Moorwood, Sandy Heyman and many more! Students were glued to the stories and voices of our guest readers. We also enjoyed an entire day with guest author Jan Reynolds. Her books are mostly informational texts retelling her adventures from around the globe. It was a terrific week filled with many extra reading and writing opportunities. THANK YOU to all of our GUEST READERS, Sue Irish and classroom teachers for putting together an amazing week of special events!
